Overview
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) has placed the requirement for fire safety in to the hands of the Owner, Manager or Employer of non domestic premises; they are deemed to be the responsible person and have a duty to produce a fire risk assessment.
Fire risk assessments can be produced by a professional risk assessor but they must include involvement from the responsible person. In fact the person in the best position to produce the fire risk assessment is often the responsible person. This course will provide your delegate with the knowledge and understanding of the Fire Safety Order, the necessary requirements for risk assessment in order to provide advice on the responsibilities and the recommended five steps to completion of a risk assessment. This course will also benefit fire alarm professionals when advising customers of their legal responsibilities.
The Course
This intensive course is run over one day and will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to provide advice on the responsibilities for and steps to completion of a fire risk assessment. In accordance with the Fire Safety Order and published guidelines, it will also help to offer accurate advice to customers on their legal requirements.
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at the competent person, fire alarm engineers, portable extinguisher technicians and anyone that may be asked to offer guidance and advice on the responsibilities for and steps to production of a fire risk assessment or in advising the responsible person on their legal responsibilities under the Fire Safety Order.
Programme
The course will detail the following points:
• The relevant parts of the Fire Safety Order
• The five steps in the fire risk assessment
• Due Diligence for the owner of the premises
• Documentation required for a fire authority inspection
• Categories of protection as detailed in BS5839
• Selection of the category required by your fire risk assessment
• Example template for fire risk assessment
Outcome
All course delegates will be provided with a comprehensive manual covering the material included in this unit and additional support material, serving as a valuable point of reference after completion of the course. The ongoing assessment included throughout the day will allow the trainer to monitor progress and provide additional assistance to learning where required. Delegates achieving 75% or more in the assessments will be awarded an FIA certificate stating that they have attended and passed the course.
NB:
During this course you will be provided with a manual to assist in the learning process and there are tests where you will be expected to read questions and write answers. The FIA is unable to make special provision for those who are unable to complete these tasks.
